Real Estate hires either the best or worst street team of all time (you be the judge) in the music video for “Easy,” directed by The Best Show on WFMU’s Tom Scharpling. The band launches its 2012 Winter tour this Saturday in Manhattan with a sold out show at Terminal 5 along with Girls and King Krule — they’ll also make their first appearance at Coachella this year.

Do you guys like Carrie Brownstein of Wild Flag, Sleater-Kinney and Portlandia fame? I do.
Her bands are great, Portlandia (Not since Hee Haw has a TV show understood it’s audience and subject matter better) is great, I’d marry her and I don’t even know her.
If you don’t feel the same way I do, you will after you read this fantastic article about her.

IFC’s Portlandia starts it’s second season on January 6th, you should watch it.

“We found ourselves talking about ambition. Though Brownstein had taken full advantage of the riot-grrrl scene, it clearly wasn’t a long-term place for her. Brownstein loved the way that the movement had freed her to make angry, exuberant music, and she was grateful for her collaboration with Tucker. But she ultimately found life in Olympia oppressive: “When you’re indoctrinated into a scene, there’s this pride that comes with being accepted and understood by people you admire. But the flip side of that is this almost stifling sense of democracy. You put yourself down, to overcompensate for the embarrassment of riches or the little attention you get.” Even worse, she said, was “the élitism that passes itself off as inclusiveness.” She went on, “The rules are so esoteric, so hard to follow, that no one else could fit in. And what you’ll never admit to yourself is that you don’t want other people to fit in.” That’s a good summation of what “Portlandia” lampoons.”

Ever wonder where bands come from? More specifically, where do the bands that populate Pitchfork’s Top Tracks of 2011 call home?

Patrick Adler, a UCLA student pursuing a doctorate in Urban Planning has and he’s used his schoolin’ to deliver that information in a very nice graph.

And guess what?

The results are exactly as you imagined…mostly. The top 3 are predictably – NY, London and LA but after that, cities like Eau Claire, Lisbon and Gothenburg start popping up. Interesting.
