Girls Just Stole The Show:

Stepping up in front of a very large crowd on a sunflower bouquet heavy stage, Girls showed up and completely blew the crowd away. From the last time I saw them Girls seem like a totally different band. M83 played before they did and the sound was almost distorted by the shirt rattling amount of bass being produced by the band, awesome but crazy bassy.

Girls were a complete 180 from their previous stage counterparts with a ridiculously clean sound – no distortion – just pure instrumentation. Playing with an 8 piece band that included 3 super soul back up singers that seemed like they were on loan from Tina Turner, Girls churned out song after song, new and old, with easily the best mix I’ve heard all festival.
Whether the songs were slow or quick, anchored by an absolute machine of a drummer, Girls have ceased to be anything but a near perfect rock and roll band.
The songs were chill as is the band’s vibe, but with the larger band and the soul singers that were singing and dancing and obviously having a good time, the set had an up tempo feel that doesn’t always come across on their records. Girls remind me of many different bands, from the guitar riffs to the vocals but they still maintain their individuality which is not an easy feat.
I find it hard to believe that anyone wouldn’t have a smile on their face watching their set.
Ending with one of the soul singers belting at the top of her pitch perfect lungs, Girls stepped off to an exasperated crowd that was nothing but appreciative of what they just witnessed.
At least at this point, Girls were the best band I’ve seen all weekend, and they will be tough to beat.
